Callum Trudgeon

Callum Trudgeon at Driving Creek Pottery

Raised in Cornwall, Callum Trudgeon studied traditional furniture making and design at Cornwall College. He joined the Leach Pottery in 2014 as the first recipient of the Leach Seasalt Bursary.

Callum finished his three year apprenticeship in 2017 and stayed on as the first production potter fully trained at the Leach Pottery since its re-opening in 2008.

‘My work mainly consists of wheel thrown functional items for everyday use. I like to produce pots that are simple and quickly made with the intention of selling them at affordable prices.'

Callum left the Leach Pottery in March 2022 and started making work at the Gaolyard Studio in St Ives. He explored Cone 6 fired slipware with slips such as copper green, cobalt and copper blue and cream.

At the end of 2022 Callum travelled to New Zealand to take up residency at Driving Creek Pottery and Railway, a unique setting amongst the Kauri native forest, established in the 1970s by potter Barry Brickell and now run by a Trust. Callum has been offered the chance to set up a small production studio there, and to design and make a new standard ware range.
