Date and Time: Saturday 22 October 2016, 10am-1pm

Maximum number of attendees: 12

Cost: £12.50

Level: Any

Beginning with a presentation about her own work and that of other contemporary South African ceramicists, this event will focus on a demonstration of hand building sculptural and functional figurines. Inspired by textures, shapes and colours from Africa’s cultural and physical landscape, Clementina’s work explores the symbolic potential of utilitarian form and the ritualization of daily activities like eating and drinking. Using earthenware clays and decorative slips she creates a pronounced irregularity in her ceramic forms which accentuates their hand-made status.

10-11am - A talk and presentation about Clementina’s work plus an overview of contemporary South African ceramics and their relationship to global ceramics

11-11.30 - Tea/coffee

11.30-1pm - Demonstration of hand-building and cutting away from solid blocks of clay to make both sculptural and functional figurines

Venue: The Clore Learning Studio, Beagle Cross, Leach Pottery, Higher Stennack, St Ives TR26 2HE
