May 2nd 2009 to March 31st 2010
Curated by Tamsin Daniel
To mark the first year since the reopening of the Leach Pottery our new exhibition looks through the eyes of Hamada Shoji, at the very early days of the pottery, the work that he, Leach and their colleagues produced and at the town of St Ives then - already an artists' colony but with an eye to the new world of tourism.
The exhibition includes early pieces by Hamada, Bernard Leach, and Michael Cardew plus examples of English and European slipware that may have influenced their work during the 1920s.
With special thanks to Royal Cornwall Museum, Tate St Ives, Farnham Craft Study Centre, and the private collectors who have kindly loaned pieces for this show.
