Under the banner of the Bernard Leach (St Ives) Trust, a registered charity, and with help from Penwith District Council, the Leach Restoration Project has acquired, restored and developed the site and its buildings in order to make them fully accessible to the general public and usable by a new generation of potters. The project celebrates the life, work, influences and legacy of Bernard Leach through the preservation of the old pottery and, importantly, through the living work of a contemporary working pottery.
The new workshops and exhibition space have been designed by GHK Architects. In the new workshops, students and apprentices work alongside established craftsmen to develop their techniques. All aspects of the potter’s trade are covered including design, production, marketing and exhibition plus mentoring and business support.
