Evening Class: HANDBUILDING with Clay

This is a great opportunity for adult beginners and improvers to develop their creativity and clay making skills in the friendly and informal atmosphere at the Leach Pottery in the  Clore Learning Studio.

  • 8 week course
  • 6.30pm - 8.30pm
  • Maximum 10 people (minimum 6 people)
  • Cost: £160 including all tuition and firings (approx 5 pieces)
  • All materials supplied: aprons and tools provided
  • A raku firing is included as part of every course

The course introduces a range of hand-building techniques including pinching, slab work and coiling.  Participants will learn clay preparation, tile making and a range of decorating techniques such as creative slip work, imprinting, impressing and incising.  Work is glazed using our earthenware glazes.

No experience is necessary. This course is designed for complete beginners and for those who have some experience and would like to develop their skills and try out new techniques.

As part of the course we include a Raku firing which is a unique and inspiring process where red hot pots are taken from the kiln and plunged into sawdust resulting in a crackled, glazed surface and produces a rich range of colours.
