Evening Class: Unstructured- Hand Building in Clay

This term's evening class is an opportunity for both beginners and improvers to attend an 'unstructured' class where students will have the space to work on their own personal projects alongside an experienced practitioner.   These classes will take place in the friendly and informal atmosphere in the Clore Learning Studio.

Autumn 2018

Thursdays, 27 September-22 November (no class 25 October)

Winter 2018

Thursdays, 24 January- 21 March (no class 28 February)


  • 8 week course

  • 6.30pm - 8.30pm

  • Maximum 8 people (minimum 6 people)

  • Cost: £160 including all tuition and firings (approx 5 pieces)

  • All materials supplied: aprons and tools provided

The course will start with a brief introduction to the studio, the equipment and tools,  the clay and how to prepare it,  and when best to use the three basic hand building techniques, pinch, slab and coil.  The sessions will then be left open for the students to work on their own personal projects. 

Clay will be given out at the beginning of each session in 1 kg blocks and limited to 5 kg for the 8 weeks for students to make what they would like.  There will be some height restrictions. 

Some experience is recommended but not absolutely necessary. This course is designed for those who have some experience and would like to develop their own personal projects and clay skills with the advice of an experienced practitioner to guide the individual's personal projects.
