We love working with local communities and creating exciting opportunities for people to work in clay and participate in something unique. Here are a few examples of projects we are done recently. If you have an idea for a project or want to be kept in touch with future projects please contact us.
Smeatons Pier, St Ives
Many local people from St Ives came along to the Leach Pottery on Saturday 12 March 2016 and helped us to decorate tiles for a mural for Smeatons Pier.
The mural decorates the pier’s refurbished sheltered seating area as part of the St Ives regeneration project and depicts key events in the history of the town.
A creative walking, nature and ceramic project for people living with dementia and their carers in the St Ives area.
It involves walking in the Cornish landscape and using nature as inspiration for ceramic artwork. The aim is to enhance physical and mental wellbeing and help to reduce isolation and loneliness.
Kresen Kernow- Tiles Project
Working with Cornish Archives and Carefree Cornwall, 7 young people in care took part in this inspiring project to produce 60 tiles to display at the new archives centre, Kresen Kernow in Redruth. Using inspiration from the archives, studies library, KK building site and the Leach Pottery, the young people learnt traditional decorative techniques using slips, glazes and oxides. They also had a go at using transfers of images they had taken during their inspiration days.
