10 Year Celebration Talks - Talk 1 : Saving The Leach Pottery

  • Borlase Smart Room Porthmeor Studios Back Road West, St Ives, TR26 1NG Uk (map)

The Leach Pottery is celebrating its ‘10 Year Anniversary’; in March 2008, the fully restored and rejuvenated Leach Pottery reopened to the public after closing its doors in 2005. To thank all the people involved - especially visitors and supporters from the local community to the far reaches of the globe, the Leach Pottery is organising a series of talks, exhibitions, events, and creative sessions.

There will be three talks/panels on 30 March, hosted by Professor Simon Olding - Director of the Crafts Study Centre and Chair of the Leach Pottery's Board of Trustees.

This talk, the 'Leach Restoration Project - Saving The Leach Pottery', focusses on how the Leach Pottery came to be saved from possible redevelopment. We look forward to hearing contributions from:

  • John Bedding: ex-Leach Apprentice, Honary [Leach] Potter, owner of Gaolyard Studios, and potter - became a founding trustee in the Leach Pottery Restoration project in 2004
  • Tamsin Daniels: from 2001, Culture Officer at Penwith District Council - responsible for attracting investment in cultural projects and integral to the Leach Pottery's redevelopment. Today, leading on cultural capital projects for Cornwall Council
  • Lady Carol Holland: key fundraiser and organiser in the establishment of the Tate St Ives, Carol went on to Chair the Leach Pottery Restoration Group.
