Century of Connections

Exhibition: 9 September 2020 – 4 November 2020 & 15 June 2021 - September 2021, Cube Gallery

Century of Connections explores the connections and friendships at the heart of the Leach Pottery – a site of creativity and renewal, a place where the local and international meet.

The Pottery has sustained remarkable connections between people, pottery and ideas for the last century. Whether inspired by a desire to make and see pottery or to explore ideas like those in A Potter’s Book, now 80 years old, these connections remain important today.

This exhibition takes you from Leach and Hamada’s early influences in Eastern and early English pottery, through to work by potters from around the world who have trained, or been inspired, by the ideas and friendships fostered at the Leach Pottery. In celebration of its 80th anniversary and its impact on the pottery community, the original manuscripts of A Potter’s Book are also displayed, alongside a fascinating paper model of the Leach Pottery, made by Leach in c.1920.
