John has been a potter and has lived in Cornwall for most of his adult life, making earthenware for a long time before switching to stoneware about 4 years ago. Domestic pottery is his first love and that direct connection between maker and user is something important to him.
John’s current making is largely wheel-thrown using Doble's clay and fired with wood. The pots are salt-glazed with a small proportion of soda used in each firing. He use slips and surface texture with simple decorative techniques and tres to work with the kiln to bring all the elements together.
