‘If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs and blaming it on you...’

My father's motto of ‘Carpe Diem' and Rudyard Kipling's poem ‘If’, are sources of inspiration for this vase. Resilience, flexibility and playfulness are some of the approaches to life which these sources encouraged. Risk taking, curiosity and boldness are critical ingredients when embarking on new projects, which is apposite to this residency. Yellow, for me, is a colour of courage and each roundel on the vase illustrates a scenario described in the poem.
