‘Going beyond South and North’

Integration and the melding of inner and outer, South and North, is a trope which emerged from my reading of Leach’s book, ‘Beyond East and West.’ My initial idea to juxtapose pottery shards l collected from the South where l have journeyed from - Calitzdorp, South Africa – with those found on walks around St Ives and the Leach Pottery, changed to a literal amalgamation of landscapes based on on-site drawings. Referencing drawings from South Africa and St Ives, the images on this vase enact a suturing of the two hemispheres.
