Large Black Double-Gourd Vase : HDX06

£750.00

Large black stoneware double-gourd vase with drawings of local summer flowers in oxidation firing with clear glaze. Made by Helen Doherty at the Leach Pottery.

‘The night sky and hedgerow seem to tell of Infinity. Bernard Leach.’Version 1

St Ives’ mild microclimate supports a vigorous and nigh year-round abundance of flowers. The hedgerows lining the country lanes which l walked, the succession of flowers and passage of birds, became a diary, a visible record of the progression of the season. Observing the blossoming and fading of a succession of flowers; foxglove, elderflower, honeysuckle, buddleia, crocosmia and hydrangeas, is a poignant reminder of the brief flowering of life itself and the necessity to seize the day, the moment, Carpe Diem.
