Meiping Style Vase : HDX11

£650.00

Meiping-style stoneware vase, reduction fired, with slip and modelled relief drawings. Made by Helen Doherty at the Leach Pottery

‘Saint Piran, patron saint of Tin mining,’ Version #1.

The images on this vase illustrate critical moments in the saint’s life, such as his expulsion from Ireland by a king who cast him into the sea to drown, with millstones tied to his body. Instead of drowning, he floated across the sea to found Cornwall. His first converts were reputedly a fox, badger and bear. Like St Ia, the appeal of this legend lies in an unwavering faith which goes beyond words and defies the laws of physics, miraculously.Height: 39cm x Diameter (base): 9cm

Weight: 5.9kg
