Work Experience at the Leach Pottery

The Leach Pottery seeks 6-12 young people to take up work experience placements from Monday 13 – Friday 17 July, 10-3.30pm.

While we understand this set week for the placement may not suit everyone, it allows us to offer the fullest experience for the young people possible.

What will I encounter during my work experience?

  • An understanding of the Leach Pottery as a business and workplace

  • An introduction to clay hand-building processes

  • An introduction to the potter’s wheel

  • Undertake an independent study task which touches on marketing, planning and researching

  • Working with community groups making pottery accessible to local people who would otherwise face barriers to accessing the pottery

  • An understanding of the Leach Pottery history

  • An insight to the firing, pugging and glazing requirements of the pottery process

  • How to plan a workshop

Who is this experience a good fit for?

Someone who is interested in finding out more about jobs in arts, crafts and heritage. We understand that many students of the arts will be interested in the position but we also encourage students who’s interests lie in wider subjects to consider this experience – the arts need all types of minds! This week is planned with ages 14-18 in mind but please get in touch if you are outside this age catchment and still wish to be considered.
