Kurinuki Pots

Bernard Studio, The Leach Pottery

Saturday 7 March, 10-11am

Saturday 7 March, 11.30-12.30pm

Saturday 7 March, 2-3pm

Join us to make your own pot using the approach of Kurinuki.

Kurinuki is a traditional Japanese hand-building technique where a solid block of clay is hollowed out and shaped by carving. Instead of using a wheel, you’ll work intuitively with simple tools, letting the form emerge through subtraction. The process is meditative, tactile, and wonderfully imperfect—each piece bearing the marks of your hands and decisions.

In this taught workshop, you’ll learn the basics of kurinuki carving, explore texture and form, and create a small sculptural vessel such as a cup or bowl. No prior pottery experience is needed—just curiosity and a willingness to experiment!

All materials and tools are provided. Finished pieces will be fired and glazed by Leach Pottery and available for pickup within 12 weeks of the course. CHARMAINE – please can you use the wording about Bernard’s not being accessible
