John Mackenzie: Featured Potter
Born and raised in Cornwall, John has always had a close affinity to the sea and rugged coastline of West Penwith.
‘The forms I make are a direct response to my environment; I aim to make work which intimately communicates the elemental processes that they have been through’
John has continued with his passion for wood-fired ceramics and explores the extreme firing process by developing his own clays, glazes and slips which respond to the flame, ember and ash.
As part of Heritage Open Week and the St Ives September Festival, John will be presenting a free talk on Wednesday 17 September: Curious about Kilns: about his recent kiln-building experience for his wood firing kiln based near Gweek, Cornwall. More information
